December 2, a skirmish came ofl' near Santa Cruz, in which the Senia force, under the command of Jukii C. Esealante, gained the victory over the government troop under Cayetano Silvas; the number of the latter hem" ninety, and thai of the former not re ported. TJie fight occurred about fire o'clock in the moruinp, the govern ment forces losing three men killed, seventeen as prisoners and oue wound ed ;lan sixteen of their horse,, ten guns, five sabres and a lot of ammuni tion fell into the hands of the Serna men. It is also reported that some little time after the fight, one govern mcnt officer and eight armed men surrendered to Eecaiantc who fell back into Arizona. According to all reports the contestants expected to have an other fight soon. Quite a number of the Mexican res idents of Tucson, seem to not com prehend the...

Tho Sonurit Tro3lZc These troubles constitute a subject of custact interest here, and they seem to be only viewed by the people ac cording to their several interests, or feeling3 arising from their nativity and education or their want of education. Here there are clearly three sides to the troubles; that of the United States, the Pesqueira government of Sonora, and the revolutionary attempts to over throw the latter. Communities have reputations to maintain as well as in dividuals, and the welfare of the latter often depends to a considerable extent on the reputation of the former. This community cannot even afford to quiet lv permit armed forces to be raised or harbored in it, which avow their pur pose to be to make war upon a govern ment with which our own is at peace; and this view of the case it in nowise chanced, if we admit such armed forces are engaged, or intend to be, in the most iust and humane cause.
