Farm and Poultry About Weeds The bad effects ot late cuttinfj of grass is that it allows many weed seeds to ripen These go into hay arc oltcn indigested by ihe stock and t j arc carried m the manure all over the farm It is a hard place for a farmer hen he dare not draw out all his manure promptly because of fear that weeds will offset the advantages of fertilization Yet this is the position in which many larmcrs place them selves The remedy is to cut hay eatly eneough to escape all weeds and for other Iced give com fodder or Huncarian crass cut before its seeds mature as this m hoed crops is a bad weed In land that is very foul some weeds will remain in the hill despite the most earful cultivation The small annual weeds in potato fields may be covered up sufficiently to be destroyed without injuring the potatoes If done in a dry time the potatoes seemed to be all the better for the operation emerging from their covering in a day or two with greater vigor than ever JBut weeds in corn...

m v Srza sa Psnltry FootrUotm Sheep It is far easier to prevent foot rot than to cure it Once in the writers experience we had it in a large flock ol sheep tor two years We finally cured it but it was a tough job and we have had a wholesome dtead of it ever since We now keep a gallon jug of carbolic acid always at hand and whenever a sheep is lame or the hoofs need paring wc apply with a brush a little crude carbolic acid to the feet Two or three times a year we make a business of going over the whole flock and give a liberal applica tion of carbolic acid to every hoof We have had but one case of genuine foot rot since we odopted this practice now more than a dozen years ago This one case was easily cured For cure or prevention we know of noth ing better or cheaper than carbolic acid Sulphuric or muriatic acid will answer as well Both are cheap and both are useful for many purposes on the farm provided you know how to use them and take care of them to prevent accidents On the first ...
