The Commercial Club met last ' Saturday evening in the Club Room io hear the Report of the Portland Committee, G. F. Richardson, H. A. Bier and H. S. Amon. ' President Richardson briefly re viewed the work of the Committee in securing the Government dredge Wallowa. He told how Congress man Jones had been communicated with and he had taken the matter up with the War Department. Col. Roessler, the government engineer, had been interested in the project, and when the legal opinion arrived that as much of §25,000 as was needed could be legally used; Col. Roessler wired orders to Captain Winslow to coal up and proceed with the work where Captain Baugh man and Captain Bailey should in dicate. The Kennewick Courier VOL. VI. NO. 44 Coal Thieves are Sent Up. Jail Sentences Given Two Who Plead Guilty. Good Police Work. W. F. Boyle and Oleo B. Cain were arrested Sunday for stealing coal from the St. Paul & Tacoma Lumber Co. by Deputy Marshal Calhoun. Trial was held Monday morning before Justice of the Peace G. F. Richardson, and Boyle was was given $75 and .costs and Cain $25 and costs and in default of pay ment were taken to the county jail •at Prosser. f'hese arrests and eonvictions are the result of some persistent police work by Marshal-Calhoun, assisted by H. W. Nelson of the St. Paul yard. For some some time coal has been disappearing regularly from the pile hear Watson Bros, warehouse and- in the morning it could be easily seen where the sacks had been filled. This had to be stopped.
