If He'd Only Had the Chance The world is full of heroes whom the people never name, Because the chances needed for their valor never-came; The woods are full of songsters that have never charmed man's ear, Because when they have warbled there has been no one to hear. There's many a gentle poet who has never twanged a lyre, Because he's kept too busy being worthy of his hire; There's many an unknown maiden with a voice that would entrance And. a face with which to charm you, if she only had a chance. Would Bonaparte or Caesar ever have achieved renown If each had been a shoe clerk in some little country town? Would Washington be honored by his countrymen to-day If George the Third had acted in a wise and decent way? The waiter at your table might, if singled out by fate To be just where he was needed, be come supremely great; The girl who guides your collar through the ironing machine Might in other circumstances have be come a stately queen. So let us not be jesting at the man who g...

YELLOWSTONE MONITOR. ABSOLUTELY INDEPENDENT. Published at Glendive, Dawson County, Montana by E. A. M ARTIN. SUBSCRIPTION PRICE, $2.00 PER YEAR Entered as second-class matter March 3, 1905, at the postoffice at Glendive, Mont., under the Act of Congress of March 3. 1879. THURSDAY. JULY 14. 1910. WASHINGTON LETTER With the departure of Congress, the President, the Cabinet, the Su preme Court, the diplomatic corps and the fashionable throng that is ever here when Congress is in ses sion, it would be an exaggeration to say that Washington is deserted, for there are still here the government clerks who are the bone and sinew of the Civil Service and whose hands and eyes are so thoroughly educated that the routine of government in all its labyrinths is carried on by them, even when the heads of de partments are absent. The shops and eating-houses, hotels and real estate offices are still here, but there in an air of unfrequentedness about them that tells that every one who can get away h...

BRIEF AND BREEZY With his interest in the preven tion of race suicide unabated, one of the first things Roosevelt probably did was to inquire how the little Oy ster Baybies were getting along. It is remarkable how regularly the Congress of the United States and the Massachusetts legislature find themselves in a close race as to date of adjournment. The bay State, as usual, was this time just a trifle ahead, at the finish. If Mr. Bryan will inspect closely and with discrimination, he will be able to note symptoms of Democra tic insurgency in Ohio. It is to be hoped that both Arizo na and New Mexico are provided with capitals guaranteed to stay put. Mr. Taft cannot complain that Congress has been precipitate or hasty. Wellesley College girls insist that alumrae returning to the alma mat er shall not bring their babies. Roose velt's attention will be called to this immediately upon his arrival. Take your vacation in an airship. What can Roosevelt be saying in these "not for publication...
