ODDS AND ENDS. An Item Here and There Worthy of Consideration. It is ft mutter of gratitude that in spite of ouc own troubles, aud we have trou? bles of our own. we are able to think of others and their joys without envy. Our good sister city, Farmville, has attained her one 'hundredth '.birthday. One huu dred years ago .there was a boom where the city now is. Lots were in .demand, but unlike lots of to day they were easy to ?et If the niospectlve owners would agree to build houses upon them. It did not make much difference what the rouses were to be, just bo each lot had one. It wus a good idea aud no vacant lot 'ay a monument to the fallen hopes of some investor. It is a pity that some of these old boom time principles were not handed down to us. We might have still lo3t our mouev, but our misfortune would have at least been hidden from an unsympathetic public. Farmville is rich in history. It would he interesting and fitting it its citizens would prepare a sort of memorial volume...
