CRIMINAL COURT[?] MONDAY, DECEMBER 4, 1826. The King v. Robert Lathrop Murray. [Newspaper Article] — Hobart Town Gazette — 9 December 1826

CRIMINAL COURT,   MONDAY, DECEMBER 4, 1826.     The King v. Robert Lathrop Murray The disputed points in this case came on to be argued thin day by the Attorney General in support of the conviction and Mr. Gellibrand as counsel for the     prisoner in reply, The points were- 1. That it is not a forgery to alter the date   of a bill before acceptance-2, that, the   alteration of the date of a bill, payable at   a certain time after sight, is not material although the alteration be made after   acceptance-3, that as Macknight was   not called as a witness, the case ought not to have gone to a jury, the presump- tion being in favour ot the prisoner. The   case was deferred. William Relph was charged with shoot- ing a calf the property of James John Turnbull with intent to steal the carcase. TO THE EDITOR. THE HISTORY AND VARIETIES OF SHEEP. [Newspaper Article] — Hobart Town Gazette — 9 December 1826

TO THE EDITOR. - - #0,/. . THE H1STORT AND VARIETIES OF SIIBEP. Stn,-It is almost universally admitted, that, the c'imate and pastures of Van Diemen's-Land aie well adapted for the feeding of sheep and the growth of fin* wool ; and that upon the exportation of the latter, ihr prosperity of the country must eventually in a grrat measure depend. Many large stockholders,-'however,. hare not yet paid any attention to «lie impiovement of the fleece in consequence of the picxdlcuur of- the \ejy incorrect opinion, thal a prolitalilecnrcaseaud fine wool cannot easily be united in Ihe sume animal; whereas, a fine fleece is one of the best ciitcitu «fa good disposi- tion or aptitude to become fut at au early age and at the expense of little food. Ou the cou&idciation of th» part of the subject, I shall, hoivei er, for the present, refrain from entering, a¡> it is my intention in the fol- lowing series of letters, to narrate the natural history of the sheep, so auto deduce from it, ...

MISCELLANY, ORIGINAL AND SELECT. ST. ANDREW'S DAY. [Newspaper Article] — Hobart Town Gazette — 9 December 1826

MISCELLANY   ORIGINAL AND SELECT. ST. ANDREW'S DAY. On the 30th of November, being St. Andrew's Day, the tutelary Saint of Scotland had the usual and due honours paid to his memory, at the British Hotel, by a meeting of many of the Scottish gentlemen of Hobart Town, and its vicinity, accompanied by various friends of the Sister Kingdoms, who have formed themselves into an association for benevolent and social purposes; and it is not perhaps too much to say, that seldom in this Land of our adoption, has there appeared together more of the good and the kind of all parties. The phi- lanthropist might be truly gratified to perceive the total absence of every discordant feeling - how indeed could it be otherwise, when the real object of the association is to Relieve the Distressed. JAMES SCOTT, Esquire, Colonial Surgeon, as Chair- man, and SAMUEL HOOD, Esquire, as Croupier, did the honours of the table, assisted by a respectable list of Stewards, and we need not therefore in...
