Obituary MR JOHN GRANT. [Newspaper Article] — Huon and Derwent Times — 1 March 1934

Obituary MR JOHN GRANT. At the age of 84 years, Mr John Grant passed away at his late resi dence, 184 Main Road, Glenorchy. He was the father of Inspector P. Grant, Police Inspector of Franklin. He leaves a widow (who is 82 years of age), two sons and two daughters. The late Mr Grant had a varied career in the printing profession. At an early age he started his ap prenticeship as a compositor at the 'Mercury' office. After having re signed from the 'Mercury' staff, Mr Grant accepted a p-osition as foreman to, Messrs Propsting and Robey on the staff of a newspaper known as the 'Ti'tbume.' When the journal went out of existence he and' Mr Atkins started business by purchas ing Burnett's printing establishment in Collins Street, Hobart, where they printed a newspaper known as the 'People's Friend.' In 1911, when the printing establishment was de stroyed' by a fire, which also de molished Fitzgerald's store, the ad joining building, the partnership was dissolved, and' Mr Grant became a ...

The Bristol Tractor ; ?' I SUCCESSFUL DEMONSTRATION ; Two very successful demonstra tions' of the British . tractor, the 'Bristol,' were held on the proper ties of Mr Herbert Heron at Glen Huon, and Mrs R. Williams at. Cyg net recently, and attracted great' in terest. The machine was first tried out connected to a 3-furrow plough, and had no' difficulty in ploughing a paddock, although it was of a very hilly nature. -?.? Next it' was .connected to a 7ft. disc harrow, * and1 did ' magnificent work, and finally to a 17-tine culti vator, with equal results.
