LIVERPOOL COUNCIL [Newspaper Article] — The Leader — 10 April 1947

LIVERPOOL COUNCIL Fer the greater part of the evening there was a bare quorum of aldermen present at Tuesday night's Liverpool Council meeting. They were the Mayor <i\l&. B. C. Fitzpatrick), Aldermen Smith. Potter, Stenner, Cullen, T. Fitz- patrick. Aid. Childs .arrived on the scene after ll p.m., having been at a local government conference all day: The meeting proved one of the quiet- est and most orderly for a long while -certainly for the past fifteen months. ( The servants' reports and other business was handled with an unwonted efficiency and for the first time for several meet- ings aliîrmfcn managed to get right through the precis of correspondence. Attendance in the public gallery was the poorest for a Jong time^ too, and this may have militated against the volubility and volatility of aldermen. A complaint from Mr. Robert Wheeler cf Hill Road that his property had been flooded in the recent big- storm for lack of a gutter on the road, was re- ferred to t...

SPORTS RESULTS Cricket [Newspaper Article] — The Leader — 10 April 1947

SPORTS RESULTS Cricket i The Southern District Rovers played Maroubra-Kensington on Sunday, 30th March at Queen's Park, Randwick, lt was a grand day, one of the best the Rovers have had. They were defeated fairly by Maroubra-Kensington but as this Club won the 1947 B Grade com- petition Rovers do not ieei that they were altogether disgraced. Rovers, winning the toss, their cap- tain K. Fahey sent the opposition in to bat. The first wicket fell for only 12 runs but after that the batsmen proved very hard to shift and the first century was up before the second wicket fell» The tail proved both long and mild however and all were out for 224. Rovers lost .their first wicket for 24 but the H. Norris-H. Gregson partner- ship raised their flagging spirits again by taking the score to 87. But their effort proved vain for all the rest of the wickets fell with the score only 125. Pull credit to Rovers' fielding this week. They were all on their toes-but the winners were too good. Next meeting...

GOSSIP [Newspaper Article] — The Leader — 10 April 1947

GOSSIP Cabramatta folk may leave advert- isements for tine Leader at Levine's Newsagency. i * # * We asked Mac Hislop (anticipating the worst about ourself) if he was af- fected by íthé sjüiHke of unoleftaker's assistants and cemetery hands. Mac looked grave. "No," he answered. "I'm <sk contractor, iît'a business as ujsual with me. You die and I'll dig. On the hole, this strike ought to put me up to my neck in work." We left him face wreathed in smiles. * * * We are sure that the Liverpool com- munity does not fully appreciate the tremendous volume of work performed by the P. and C. Branch. Readers may be surprised to learn that one of the activities of this small but energetic ¡body is the conduct of a £4000 a year business. We refer to the Oslo lunch- room at the school. Turnover last year was £3746/19/1. Despite the fact that it is the policy of the Association to keep prices down to the barest working minimum, the year's operations showed a substantial profit.
