Louver are (inked with Greater SUPPLIES V Hew yea can kelpie confrel he oae by billdlag ap the ether Ai everyone knows, pricci of many goods to-day art much higher than formerly. There are various rMioni for this: lack of raw materials, shortages of labour, the high cost of imported materials. Those are three of many, and it will take time to overcome their effects. But there's one problem ' which can be attacked immediately ' If every Australian will help—the problem of controlling prices by making available supplies go further. When there are not enough goods of a certain type for everyone who wants them, prices tend to rise. But if competition for lush goods were to cease, prices could , > be mors easily stabilised. / Every thinking Australian will realise that the wise course to follow these days is one of saving, of buying nothing absolute essentials.' By doing so, they will not only help to overcome present shortages, but the money they save will go further and buy better l...

For Women Only [Newspaper Article] — Western Star — 25 February 1949

For Women Only I This is the second of the series of handy recipes for the laundry. BRAN WATER.—To each quart of water ad l cup of bran. The quan tity made will depend upon the bulk of the article you are washing. Place ihc liran in the water, bring: slowly to the boil, and simmer for 20 min utes. Strain carefully before using. 'Bran water has cleansing as well as stiffening- properties. Use it for laundering cretonne, chintz, hoiland, etc. It is preferable to starch, since it gives only a slight stiffness, and colours do not run as readily. To wash the above use equal quantities of bran water and lulcc-warni water; and for stiffening, use Bran Water, as in the recipe. GUM WATER*—-Gum water le Ideal for stiffening black or dark material, since It does not show when ironed, ;is starch usually does. Try gum water, also to restore that new look to net, lace, and davk or coloured silk, voile or muslin. etc. Use 1oj£ of Gum Arabic to 1 pint of boiling water. Crush, wasli and soak gum til...
