THE Ovens and Murray Advetiser. PUBLISHED DAILY. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 1857. THE MASTERS AND SERVANTS' ACT. [Newspaper Article] — Ovens and Murray Advertiser — 7 February 1857

THE   Ovens and Murray Advertiser. PUBLISHED DAILY. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 1857. THE MASTERS AND SERVANTS' A CASE of a very curious character ap- dears in our police report this morning, to which public attention is desirable, as it illustrates a very remarkable fea-   ture in the Masters and Servants' Act. From the report it will be seen that Mr Thomas Stevens, of Beechworth, a   short time since hired or caused to be hired in Melbourne, a female scrvant, who after remaining a brief period in the service of her master, from some unexplained cause quitted her place and refused to return. With the cause of this absence, or with the individuals   who were parties to the case, the feature of the act to which we wish to draw attention, has little to do. They might have been entire strangers or mere figures, as far as our remarks are con- cerned. To continue our narrative :   The master brought the truant domestic &n...
