Natfaalia Agricultural Society. The usual monthly meeting of the above was held in the Public Hall on Saturday last. Present—Messrs. R, J. Patterson (vice-president) in the chair, Jas. Mackenzie, J. Ball, R. F. Jones, M. T. Fairm'an, P. Nugent, John Mackcnie, H. Furze, F. Wheller and H. M; Muntz. - After the minutes had been read and confirmed, the chairman said the meeting had only been held to keep things in order. The secretary (Mr. Pryer) had made arrangements to have the minutes read.' There was no correspondence of any im portance. - •> Melbourne Collectors. The chairman reported that he had just arrived home from Mel bourne that day, and the collectors had had a most successful time. Latighlon, kasp.isled about 37,000 cards to the farmers in the wheat and oat growing districts, with the request that they will fur nish the area sown with wheat and oats for the present season ; and state the quanity of wheat on the farm on 30th inst. Postal. When tenders were called for the conveyance of mails between Na thalia and Yielima, no tender was accepted. Later on, after communi cating with the Dep irtmeni, a letiei has been sent along by Mr. A C. Palmer, for public infor mation. From this it was seen that the residents of Yielima will be cut off from the Melbourne mail on th.e day the mail runs, as it is shown that it will leave Yielima at 4.15 p.m and is due to reach Nathalia at 6 p m. The starting place is Nathalia in stead of Yielima as formerly. Mr. J. W. Limbriclc is the present con tractor and will commence the new service on Thursday next.

The adjourned meeting of towns people which was held foe the pur pose of discussing ways and means of coatributing towards the funds of the hospital, was lipid in the Public hall on Friday evening. The chairman said they were all aware of the reason of the meeting, but owing to the very poor atten dance he was of opinionthat it was advisable to abandon the idea of a carnival this .year. It was useless, when the people of the town and district do not attend the meetings, for a fcwi to undertake such a big affair. Numurkah were holding a carnival this year, and perhaps it might be advisable to hold a carnival alternatively with them. Agricultural Colleges. • | The reports of the principals of | Dookie and Longerenong Agricul ■ tural Colleges for'the month ot May, state that seeding operations, now in full swing, arc being carried on under very favorable conditions. Daring =May 150 points of rain fell at Dookie and 102 at Longerenong. Up to date, at Dookie, 750 acres have been sown, including 400 of .wheat, 380 pats, 40 peas and 24 barley. About seven acres of the earliest "sown wheat have required -tp.be re-3eeded on account of poor germination. The general outlook is satisfactory and the live stock are all in first-class condition. The work ing horses are on a. daily ration of 35 pounds oaten chaff, 12 pounds crushed oats and two pounds bran. Mr. Pye dr.iws attention, to the fact that the Millers' Association has de cided to give an extra threepence per bushel for comeback wheat. BARMAH EAST. The annual meeting of the local tennis club was held on Saturday evening. The reports submitted showad that the team had been suc cesful in association matches, winn ing'the western section premiership, though defeated in the second match of the semi-finals for the association pennant. Representatives contested with success at Yarrawonga and Numurkah. The financial statement showed a small credit balance. It was dccided -to support an associa tion on terms similiar to last year. '"J- '■ DISTRICT NEWS. (From Our Correspondents.) - YIELIMA. On Wednesday last a very success ful hare shoot took place at Yielima. The affair was organised by Mr. C. Mason to assist in raising funds to | provide a windmill, etc., for the [ Yielima South State Sohool garden ! water supply. The total reached 248 hares, and when disposed of a cheque for -£n/8/- resulted. A very satisfaotory result to the day's hard tramping. On Saturday last the Yielima Tennis Club opened their courts for the . season. There was a large gathering of players and interested onlookers. During the proceedings a most enjoyable afternoon cup of tea was provided by the ladies.
