The Steamer Ruth. Capt. Pejrram, left Cairo last night at 11 o'ckck, with a email passenger list and 600 tons cf freight, bound for Helena- Her load confuted partly of about 100 head of fat cattle for the array, and 122 mules, Pavmaattr Brinton, of Philadelphia, with $2,600,000 was a passenger, en route fer the army of Geo. Grant, having as guars', thirty men of the 9th Wisconsin regiment, under Lieut. Ccurier. Less than an hour after leaving this plsce, the colored chambermaid discovered fire aft on the starboard side, near the stern. She gave the alarm, and a scene of ocnfusion ensued, though not as great as might have been expected.
