They fought us, be lli caned us, villified us, cursed us, threatened to whip us, tried to boycott us. but we stood firm ly at the rack, fodder or no fod der, and now the same people are saying that we are right, and before the end of two years they will be paying two dollars a head for somebody to take them out behind the house and give them . good kicking for being mislead . ud fooled by a set of fanatics. A newspaper that cannot stand for what it knows to be right that cannot stand out firmly against spontaneous and excited public, opinion, is not worth having. Jf mere is any one tinng on eartn that should have backbone, stamina, stickability and blind integrity and truthfulness, it is the newspaper. A newspaper t hat will yield to frenzied public opinion who will go with the waves of dissension and strife and be dashed again...
