Tho Hutlund Courier I Informed from good authority that the manage of the Vermont Central Railroad, i well as the people of Bethel, StoeUhridge, and Pltsllcld, are preparing to make an early survey for a railroad from Bethel to Rutland 'on a very feasible line of route, that, will make the whole distance from Bethel to Rutland only thirty-two mllcH. The line of route, we under stand, will be from Bethel to Pitt-field village, thence wedtwardly on the nor thern sido of the mountain that lays north of "New Boston," and sweeping round to tlio south via the "(irecnleuf Place" and "Blab City," striking the route of the Rutland & Woodstock road a little south of the residence of Hiram B.iird, Esq., at Chittenden. Especially is this so in the Customs branch, theoreti cally, the duties of many of its olllcers consist almost wholly in acting as checks upon one another. But, like many other systems of checks and balances, this in relation to the customs has practically proved a failure.
