i v n I p 4 AGRICULTURAL HINTS WELL MADE CISTERNS Zlioy AinHre Sufficient Supply of rure Writer for Stock llavitiff noticed several articles on the subject of pure water for stock tind knowing its Importance and also that there are many 1- ullties where It Is impossible to bring the water from springs or depend on the small supply from wells I would recommend a wcll constructed cistern or a number of cis terns connected together Let us look to tho roofs of available buildings at the first source of supplying water Take a roof say of 42xBJ feet Including pro jections and we havo 2184 square feet of surface Allowing the annual rain fall to be 88J Inches a building of the dimensions given would catch In a year 52411 gallons or 1003 barrels which had much better be utilized In this way than to bo allowed to drip into manure piles thus washing their goodness away A cistern large enough to hold 1003 barrels would have to be 20 feet In diameter and 23 feet deep hut as tho rain does not all...
