This summer residence for the invalid and pleasure seeker, though tfome ten miles away, is always mentioned as a part and parcel of Salem. All guests going there pass through Salem. The medicinal properties of this water for diseases of all kinds, is too well known to be adverted to here, farther than to say its curative properties have been testified to by many persons benefited by a stay there. We think it better to fill his place with a young man, and I have come to offer it to you." The firm had a private bank, and dealt m stocks. It also did considerable cargo insurance, placed loans, bought mortgages, shaved notes, and made money in other dignified and respectable ways. It had been doing business for 20 years and was rated observativc aud sound. The only curious thing about the firm was the trio composing it. Brown was an old bachelor of 50. He was tall, angular and homely, and the only woman whom he could endure was his landlady. Smith was five years older and married, but h...

\ tut to Miiplej *s l'alo. A few days ago there died in a quiet (lown town street a beautiful young: married woman, a victim ??f most cruel injustice. Before her marriage her name was Annie Shipley, ami she was an unusually attractive girl. Her hair was black as jet, a nil her complexion pure, (tegular and pleasing in features, of a graceful ligure and always wi ll dressed, and possessed of charming manners, she was a favorite w ith all who knew her. Annie Shipley joined some years ago one of the largest Presbyterian churches in Philadelphia. She at once became very popular in the congregation. Her personal beauty, her attractive manners and her high character gained for her the friendship of the leaders in the congregation, and she was soon on the most cordial and intimate terms with many families that pride themselves on their social standing. Such was the confidence of the minister, the Sunday-school superintendent and others in the young woman that she was made a teacher in the ...
