When properly rotted this material makes one of the best w vigorators to be found for trees, vines, vegetables, and cereals, and is one of the most readily and cheap ly obtained fertilizers in use. Sods may be pothered from the fence corners or tilled fields, gathered from tl.e surf tec after plowing and harrowing ?ward laud, and in man} placea from the roadside when the lighwav is undergoing repairs. To utilize sods and secure irom them their best tertilizing effect?, they should oe gathered and piled in some out ot the way place, down? ward, and the whole covered with ashes or c >ip-dust or both, to keep the grwss f?om growing.
