THE HEREFORD BRAND PRESS COMMENTS. The Hereford Brand has just changed hands. Mr. J. Ray, than whom no better or more qualified newspaper man is to be found in West Texas or Eastern New Mexico, retiring in favor of C. E. Edwards as owner and O. E. Thomas as edi- tor. Mr. Ray has raised the Brand to a height of perfection and pros- perity seldom attained by a country newspaper and the journalistic field loses one of its brightest lights in his retirement. The Herald wishes the new management unbouned sue- ces and hopes to see the present high character of the Brand perpetuated. —Portales Herald. C. E. Edwards is now the onwner and publisher of the Hereford Brand, having bought out Joe Ray. 0. E. Thomas supports him as editor. The gentlemen start out with a swing that promises well for their keeping up the gait of the former editor and to do that is no small undertaking for any two men.—Ros well Regis- ter-Tribune. The Hereford Brand, easily the best country newspaper in the entire Pa...

Among the crying needs of Here- ford at present, it seems to the Brand Editor, is a good local Fire Depart- ment. This matter has been neg- lected long enough and some night we will be aroused to find that we have procrastinated far too long — unless something is done for protec- tion against fire^he time will come when we will have to stand by, un- able to offer any assistance, and watch valuable property burn to the ground. With a good, efficient vol- unteer fire department such as most of the towns of our state this size and even smaller are provided with, thousands of dollars worth of pro- perty could be saved in case of fire.
