Federation. [Newspaper Article] — Narromine News and Trangie Advocate — 23 June 1899

Federation. The Assembly Hall was tbe scene of an an animated debate on Monday evening. Being the evening of the Federal Referendum voting day, it ?was only to be supposed that the aub ject of the debate, namely, the defects or otherwise of the Federak Constitu tion Bill, should attract a large audience. A very large and apprecia tive audience pat in an appearance, and srithougn one or two 01 lue »pt»iwcii- handled the subject in a rather rude manner, yet on the whole, the dis cussion was productive of some infor mation to wavering voters. There is one thing in connection with concerts in the country, and Narromine is no exception, and that is stamping and whistling while the lady or gen tleman is singing, not only by boys ? but adulw. if it owui'6 ujritu «n shall have to publish the names of the off enders, as it is a disgrace to the town. The first item on the programme was an Overture by the Narromine Brass Band, in their usual style, after which the Choir rendered the gleo, 'Hark, the Lark,' very creditably. The next was a solo, ' Ora Pro Nobis,' by ilrs. Simmonds, who was very ner vous but got better in 'the last verse. Duet, 'Larboard Watch,' Messrs Arthur and Turner, was very good....
