Magis trates in excluding the ? public and the Press from the Court during the hearing, of the terrible charge of nameless indecencies preferred against an elderly -man, is very, peculiar. .On Tuesday it was- not carried as far as; this-, but the public;. was excluded,! while tlie' Press 'was asked tosirppress the evidence until the case 'was concluded. - Such steps were not taken' to .screen even Oscar Wilde 'when his infamous. practices :were exposed to the light of day, despite the fact that the son of: a marquis was impli- ' cated. The whole matter was exposed in opcu Court, and ,the English Magis-, trates did not dare -to ask the Press to suppress the evidence adduced. Yesterday afternoon, Mr Arthur pacre, the well-known English actor, who, with his wife (Miss Amy Roselle) has bee:i living in Macquarie-street, shot her, and then cut his owir throat, with a razor. Mrs Dacre was dead beforeuithe* doctors ..arrived,.- and her husband died shortly atterwards. .They, left letters which went to indi cate that Mrs Dacre fully concurred in ? . her husband's deed; and 'stating1 that, owing to a1 continual r.un -of bad-luck, Dacre was left a broken man. ?'_ '? . The demand 'of the Foreign Office that Lieutenant Lothaire be court . martialled for hanging Stokes without: trial, has been acceded to by the Congo Free State. AUSTRIAN, TROUBLES. A MUNICIPAL DISPUTE. M. Lueger, an ardent anti-Semitic, whoso election as Mayor of Vienna was refused confirmation, has been rc'-elcc-' ted. The discussion of the case has been commenced in the Reichstag. The debate on the subject has been marked by many . turbulent scenes. The galleries were crowded by the public, who cheered every 'mention of the name of Lueger. The Ministers, for the time, were compelled to retire, so strong was the feeling , aroused against them.
