Obituary Mrs.'_ W. FINDLAY. Very many beautiful wreaths and a packed Church emphasised the district's respect for one who. has suffered much but most cour ageously through the years that are passed. It was undoubtedly due to her magnificent spirit that Mrs. Findlay has carried on dur ing recent years, and her passing at Epworth Hospital, Melbourne, will be!mourned by all who knew her. The Presbyterian Church was notl. able to accommodate the great number of relatives and friends who gathered to pay their last respects, and after an impres sive service the cortege moved off to the Alexandra cemetery where the casket was borne to its last resting place on the shoulders of Messrs. V. Coller, L, Coller, K. Coller, II. Coller, R. J. Findlay and B. Findlay, whilst the pall was carried by Messis.' S. Stillman, J. Easton, F. Webb. R. 'C. Roberts, 'N. Christie, and L. Nicholas. Rev. The Alexandra showgrounds pro vided a beautiful setting for the con test between Alexandra and Avenel last Saturday, and even though the weather was ideal the attendance fell to a little below normal, this being due to the fact that, it is understood, a fair representation accompanied the Alexandra Seconds to the match at Thornton. Alexandra fielded a weak team, a number of their regular play ors ,being op. the injured list; but at that they Wfto'6r't troubled greatly by the visiting eighteen. From the bounce of the ball Avenel attacked, and continued in this strain to have most of the say during the first half of the match. MR. H. G. ALDOUS [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton, Taggerty and Acheron Express — 23 June 1950

MR. H. G. ALDOUS There was general gloom in Yea on Wednesday night, when the news of the death of one of the town's best respected and most popular residents in Mr George Aldous, be- came known. The late Mr Aldous was returning to Yea about 6 p.m.   after his mail-run to Flowerdale, when his utility truck careered off the road, and plunged into a cul- vert between the residences of Mes- srs J. Borrie and H. Scott. As the deceased was subject to heart at- tacks, it is thought generally that he was overtaken by such a turn before the crash occurred. The late Mr Aldous, who was 58 years of age, was born at Yarck, where his parents, the late Thomas and Martha Aldous, had a farming property. He lived his early life in that district, and was soon in uni- form when hostilities broke out in   1914. He served with distinction in France with the 13th Light Horse, was wounded and invalided to Eng- land. He then joined General Bird- wood's staff, with whom he was ackno...
