For several days Mrs. 2fort . had. suffered severely from dysentr, and while in a state of exhaustion from this cause was confined. This brought about a state of collapse i?rdo which. she never recovered, and died early on Sunday morning. Once it became known that the deceased was ill plenty of help was forthcoming, many of. the neighbors being most at tentive and kind in their attentiod to. the family.: -The funeral took place on Tuesday at the Yarra Glen cemetery, the service at, the grave being con ducted by Mr. Langley. There ar. two children left, the elder a boy two years of age, and the newly-born baby, both of whom have been taken chnrge of by two neighbors pending arrange ments being made for their future care. M 'nr. G. Sutherland, ihe grpatest han dicap rider New Zealand has ever pro duced, arrived in Melbourne last week, accompanied by .Allan._ Jones, an American cyclist- of repute. New Zealand has within the past few years produced: sonme. fine riders in Bert Pither, A. J. Body, A. C. . Forbes, and F. Hunt; but it is claimed that Sutherland is a:fair superior handicap rider to any ..of. these riders. It is Sutherland's intention' to take up his abode in Melbourne, where he will train for the coming racing season, and his ap pearance amongst the Australian cracks next Novemher will be watched with interest. Allan Jones, who accom panies Siutherland, has won fame on his wheel in the the land of,Stars and Stripes, and that he is not " too slow" is evidenced by his defeating "Plugger Bill " Martin on three occasions. Both the cracks will ride the latest Multiflex Dunlop racing tyres during their so journ in Australia; hut they have not yet decided upon the machines they will ride.
