In connection .with, the State Ministry's scheme for providing em ployment in country districts the Water Supply Commission is • at present carrying out' a number of works in the mallee, which are be ing clone almost entirely by local residents. During the past two weeks contracts were prepared for 150 miios of road work in the parishes of Wathe, Dattuck, and Pirro. The total aniount of the contracts was over £2,000. Works of a similar character, aggregating £7,000, are now in progress. The clearing and scooping, of sand from about 200 mileg . of road . in the parishes of Nypo, Putchewollock, Dattuck, ..
