You Must Have a Good Stove. You can't have a fire without burning some kind of fuel. You agree to this ? Why, of coursfi. Well, now suppose you had bought a stove in which no fuel what ever would hum, what vrould you do? Throw it bask on the dealer's hands and get anothor ? To be sure. Now, fancy you had ? But let us have the story first and draw the conclusion afterwards. A woman tells this bii of experience :— ' It was in 1882,' she says, ' when I began to fool ill and out oC sorts. I did not know what was the_ matter with ino. In the morning I was tired and languid, and was constantly spitting and belching up a clear fluid like water. My appetite gradually left me, and I had great pain after every morsel I ato. I had great pain at the chest, which at times seemed to strike through to the back and shouldjrs. I lost a good deal of sleep at night, owing to spasms and to wind that appeared to gather in my sides. No food, however simple, agreed with me. For three yoars I suffered liko...

To Pass or Not to Pass. TO THE EDITOR OF THE SHOALHAVEN NEWS. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 21 January 1893

To Pass or Not to Pass. TO THE EDITOR OF THB filiOAUIAVEN NEWS, Sir,— After all tha fuss that has been made respecting the urgent necessity for Parliament passing the Local Government Bill this session, there exist many reasons for suspecting that a largo section of the Legislative Assembly are secretly anxious to secure its rejection or withdrawal, not on account of any defects or shortcomings, but simply because it. would tend to : decrease their influence in their respective constituencies.'' With the disappearance ? of the roads and bridges members, we should have a very different class of parliamentary representatives, men who would take a broader and more national view of great public questions. No wonder the National Association is labour ing hard in the good work, for the ' existence of a good Byatem of local govern ment is also one of tho essentials of a sound and efficient electoral-system. So long as we have municipalities regularly in the receipt of state assistance ther...

It is no simple matter to state in terms at all precise what forces are directly con nected with tho production of hale and happy old age. More certainly is involved in tho process than mere strength of con stitution. ITealthy surroundings, content ment, and active, temporato and regular habits are most valuable aids. Hard n-otk, so long at least as it is not carried beyond the limit necessary to permit of the timely repair of worn tissues, is not only harmless, but a conducive circumstance. It is, in fact, by living as far as possible a life in accordance with natural law that we may expect to reap the appropriate result in its prolongation. Great care should be taken to protect the system against the chauges which disease makes therein. Coining misery casts its shadows before it, aud Intimates its approach by various signs, as a feeling of general weakness, neuralgic pains, nervous headaches and rising o£ sour wind from the stomach, backache and lumbago, failure of virility, and g...

Kiama. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 21 January 1893

Eiama Last week, on Thursday or Friday night a malicious and cowardly act of de struction was perpetrated at the Kiama Showground. Thirty-two handsome trots, planted several years ago by the Agricul tural Society, were sawn down and com pletely severed from the roots, whilst some dozen others were -also cut in a manner threatening total destruction. The society' has offered a reward of £100 for information which will convict the culprit. The annual general meeting of the Kiama Hospital was held last Wednesday evening. The reports showed that during ? 1892 thero were 66 pationts admitted, and B8 were discharged as cured. Eour came from Kangaroo Valley, three from Nowra, two each from Berry and 'Shoal - haven,' and one each from Cambewarra, Coolangatta, Tomerbtig, and Budgong.
