THE Vico-Prosident lays beforo the Council a letter from Mr. Georgo Edmondstonc, on behalf of a proposed Gas Company, applying for a grant of a portion or land at Petrie's Bight, hi the city or Brisbane, whereon to erect the neces- sary buildings, and carry out the objects or tho proposed company. Tlie Surveyor-General, in reporting on the application, states that the site indicated, though reserved for dockyard pur- poses, may bo deemed available, as tho exten- sion of tho city boundaries, and tho great in- crease of population, render it very question- able whet her Petrie's Bight could now bo put to tho uses contemplated by the reservation. MARRIAGE WITH A DECEASED WIFE'S SISTER. THE following are the clauses, contained in the bill introduced into the Legislative Assembly, by Mr. R. Cribb, for legalizing marriage with a deceased wife's sister ; 1. It shall be lawful for any person to marry the sister of his deceased wife provided that no minister of religion shall be compelled to cele- brate such marriage. 2. All marriages with a deceased wife's sister are hereby declared to have been and to be lawful and the issue thereof legitimate any law or custom to the contrary notwithstanding. 3. This Act shall be styled and may be cited as the " Marriage Act of 1864."

TELEGRAPHIC NEWS. (moil OUE TELEQEArniO COItniSrOKDENTS.) SYDNEY. May 30. Papers have been received from the Cape of Good Hope to the 7th April last. The Tascaloosa is still retained by the Go- vernment. Tho Governor is visiting Iho Northern terri- tory, r/a/i'ho Alabama has not yet returned. In reforonco to Colonial news, it is reported thal Ben Itali robbed the Young coach to-day, and afterwards attacked Iho Binnalong mail, which was guarded by troopers. Shots wore exchanged, but the bushrangers escaped. Tho Callender, bound for Brisbane, has passed the Heads. Tho departure of the Yarra bus been post- poned till lo-morroiv. THE preparations for tho Fancy Bazaar in aid of the AVickhani Terrace Church Fund, which will bo opened this evening, at the Armoury, were completed yesterday, with the exception ol' a few ol' tho decorations. James Gam-   bel, for a similar offence, aggravated by the use of obscene language, was fined 20s. VICE-ADMIRALTY COURT. THE following appeared in a Queensland Government Gazette Extraordinary, issued yes- terday :— It is ordered by his Honor James Cockle, the Chief Justice of Queensland, and the Judge of the Vice-Admiralty Court of Queensland, that a Vice-Admiralty Court of Queensland be holden at the Supreme Court-house, at Bris- bane, on Wednesday next, the first day of June, A.D., 1864, at three of the clock in the after-   noon of the day aforesaid. And notice is hereby given, that, until further order, the seal   of the Supreme Court of Queensland, affixed to any document or proceeding duly issued out of the said Vice-Admiralty Court of Queensland, shall have the force and effect or a seal or the said Vice-Admiralty Court.
