In one of the. Inte piersonal 'squabbles;.' wfue'n nightly disgrace the proceedings of Jim ..As sembly, a member exclaimed, ' There- is no King in Israel.' POLITICAL CRISIS. [Newspaper Article] — The Grenfell Record and Lachlan District Advertiser — 11 August 1877

POLITICAL CRISIS. The Legislative Assembly have been chiefly engaged discussing Mr. Garrett's motion in reference to the administration of tho thirty first section of the Land Act, which provides for the pnrchase under pre-emptive right of land held under lease from the Crown, and improved by the lessee. The proviso of the clanse is : ' Provided also that no such ap plication to purchase as aforesaid shall be made for more than one square mile within each block of five mile square out of each lease, or a proportionate quantity out of any bo-lding of a less area.' Doubts hav ing arrseo as to the meaning of the clause, Mr. Garrett, when Secretary for Lands, ob tained the opinion of the late Attorney General to the effect that the' right of pur chase could only be exercised when the pastoral tenant held a block of laud fi ve miles square, or for any proportionate quantity out of any holding of less area ; in other words that the right to purchase was go verned by the Bhape of the land....

Correspondence. I (To the Editor of the Grenfell Record.) Sir, — Be good enough to spare me a little room in the Record for tho purpose of telling some of the lads of Gronfell that the magistrates have, in two or three places, decided to put an end to the pest of Iarrikinism by the free use of the rod, and that if some of the fast youths of Grcnffll do not shortly mend their manners, some such plan will have to be adopted here. To prevent those of them who make a practice of larking outside the church on Sunday even ings from getting into trouble, 1 wish by way of caution to whisper into their oars that the next time they disturb the congregation, means will be taken to trap them in a way from which there will be no escape until they have appeared at tho court-house, and been punished by the magistrates for their folly. It would be as well for fathers and mothers, and also employers who have authority over these unruly lads, to keep them off the streets at night, for if they are all...
