SNAP SHOTS [Newspaper Article] — Kiama Independent — 26 July 1947

SNAP SHOTS From the R.S.L. Here are some anomalies in the recent pension increase legislation which may well receive the early at tention of' the Treasurer:- The weekly 5/- increase paid to widows, invalid pensioners and ld age pensioners under Social Services became effective on 3rd July. War widows, service pensioners and "special rate" war pensioners did not get their increase 'until 10th July, a week later. They lose .5/ because the amending Bill specified the first.pay day in July for the in crease. Repatriation Department says only a further amendment to he Act can put Repatriation pension ers and Social Services pensioners on an equal footing. The dependent wife of an invalid pensioner received the 5/- increase; the dependent wife of. a permanently unemployable pensioner is still on the same rate. No.addition was made to the con tinuing allowance paid to the widow of an ex-serviceman who was re-' ceiving a war pension, but whose death was not attributed to war causes. ACo .ke...
