Rheumatism and Teeth. [Newspaper Article] — Raymond Terrace Examiner and Lower Hunter and Port Stephens Advertiser — 7 February 1913

Rheumatism and Teeth. Dr. iodine contends that rheu matic fever is caused by a germ; and that it is riiost probable that the mouth is its .portal of entry into the system, and that its presence there is due to decayed teeth. The relation of the tonsils to rheumatism has been well proved, and these are most pro In addition such, conditions of. the teeth allow ot er infected germs to reach tho organism and break down its no: mal resistance to such infec tions. Faulty teeth, too, lead to im paction of food particles in the mouth , and their decay, and interfere with the proper preparation of food for di gestion in the stomach and intestines. He thinks that infection from decayed teeth may likewise be the- cause of diabetes, and the existence of sceptic mouth makes the danger very actual.
