COHR ESPONDEN C E It tu to be distinctly understood that ce,, a tc Wayn identify ourselves with the opin iosn expressed by our c~rrespondents. Ol, SAVE ME FROMst My FarENDS ! (To the Editor.) Sir,-Permit me to make one small comment 0on the subject of the town clerk's resignation. In your issue of 9th inst. Mr. Henry is made to say that "Readers of the press reports of the Council prcceedings must be struck, by the innumnerable matters that are disposed of by being left in the town clerk's hands." The point, sir, is that those who read the press reports (for the last ten years at any rate) will also be struck by the fact that" those coun cillors who were always wanting to "leave things", were Mr. Henry's own particular friends, or at any rate those whom we outsiders always thought and spoke of as such.-Yours, &c., ... EVIDENCE FOR THE DEFENCE. (To the Editor.) [Newspaper Article] — Portland Observer and Normanby Advertiser — 13 July 1914

EVIDENCE FOR THE DEFENCE. (To the Editor.) Sig,-- am pained to think that the matron (Miss Corry) has been treated scunjustly. It is just like a thing that would be done in Russia The com mittee receive a letter from a member of the domestic staff and refuse to put it through the press. They hear only one side of the dilliculty. It's a very lop-sided ides. They seem to have ab solutely no sense of British fair p'ay; Ma'ron Curry, since her arrival in Portland, has been treated by the housekeeper as I never wish to see an other woman tr6ated, and site has shown great forbearance under great provocation. If there were two or three nurses here the housekeeper would not dare to treat their matron so. With regard to the alleged insults to. the do umestic, spokenwof in the paper, I can with confidence say that bliss Corry is the rights woman in. the right place. She is a very even tempered, peaceful woman: tdo refined to insult anyone, and in every way honorable, conscien tious and most e...
