Letters to the Editor. We do not hold ourselves rtesponsible for, or identify ourselves wilth, the opinions expressed by our correspondents. " TURNED DOWN." Sir,-I have heard an awful lot about the council refusing to hear the deputa tion from the Progress Society Confer ence with reference to health, weeds, and other matters, all of which I admit are of the utmost importance. The reason the council gave for not hearing the de putation was because they had the mat ters referred to in the correspondence in hand. What I want to know is : Did the society have word from the council thlat it was not necessary to hear them, or did the ceuncil spring a suirprise on the members of the society P Did the members of the society make any ar rangeniuent with their riding members to have them heard, or did they ask the council if that body would hear them, or did they just state in their letter that a deputation would be present to support the requests in the letter. If the depu tation arrived wi...

Ivanhoe Horticultural Society. A SUCCESSFUL SHOW. The eleventh annual show was held in the Ivanhoe ltall on Saturday evening, and notwithstanding thle unseasonable weather, was very successful. There were about 500 people present, which, with the exhibits, made the hall uncom fortably full, and it is a pity that some means cannot be devised by which the visitors could see the exhibits with more case and thus better appreciate the beau tSy of the flowers. Mr E.) Wallis (president) apologised for the absence of Hon. J. G. iMembrey, who had arranged with the Chief Secre tary to open the show. Unfortunately the weather was against good blooms, and several prominent members were unable to exhibit, but new members were com ing to the front, and they had record en tries. He wished to thank the following people for assistance given to the so ciety:-Messrs Cooper (Alexandra Gar dens), Robinson (Narrewareen), Pockett, Enid Nursery, Diamond Creek Fruit growers' Association, Mr Alton, the lec t...

The section that has rced the election on us must be ondemned, and shown that they are anted no more. The party thathe he candidate) stands for might have een called the " End the-...
