The Record. EMERALD HILL: THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1873. THE MELBOURNE ORPHAN ASYLUM RESERVE. [Newspaper Article] — The Record and Emerald Hill and Sandridge Advertiser — 25 September 1873

|te.c(rcfr. EMERALD HILL : THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1873. THE MELBOURNE ORPHAN ASYLUM RESERVE. The proposal to let on building leases the Clarendon-street frontage of the Melbourne Orphan Asylum Eeserve will re-open a question that has been often before agitated on Emerald Hill. Many years ago it was pointed out that the 10 acres upon which the Asvlftgi Jtagds Jjg numbers of children that would have to be accommodated in the building, while at the same time the value of property would become too great to allow ol such a reserve being perpetu ated in the centre of a thriving and bustling town. FREEMASONRY. THE INDEPENDENT GRAND LODGE OF VICTORIA. [Newspaper Article] — The Record and Emerald Hill and Sandridge Advertiser — 25 September 1873

FREEMASONRY. rHE INDEPENDENT GBAND LODGE OF VICTORIA. , The movement which has recently been made towards the establishment of an Independent Grand Lodge of Freemasons in Victoria will be fresh in the memory of every member of the Craft. The desirability of such action being taken, it is not our intention at present to discuss, as we do not con sider there can be two opinions con cerning "the advisability of expending the large sums of money contributed for benevolent purposes in the colony, amongst ourselves, in place of sending them to England, Ireland, and Scot land, and also with regard to the unity; of action which must result, from the Lodges in Victoria all working.under one head in place of three. ' Our immediate desire is to re-operi the question by referring to the communi cation forwarded to the Lodges by the R.W. District Grand Master, respect ing the recent action, and to present to the brethren the report of a Grand Lodge Meeting in London, in which the auestion of an I...
