Weekly News-Letter AN APPRENTICE DISCUSSES TOPICS OF THE WEEK IN LIGHT VEIN [Newspaper Article] — Construction and Real Estate Journal — 1 October 1930
Weekly News-Letter AN APPRENTICE DISCUSSES TOPICS OF THE WEEK IN LIGHT VEIN Dear Mum, A lot of the chaps 011 our job are going Strong for labour. I like 'argufying' with them, just to make them rattled. X picked up the Annual Report of the Employers' Federation of New South Wa^es the other day and learned up a lot of other peoples view-points. FIERCE TORNADO AT CABRAMATTA, (N.S.W.) Tribute to 'Fibrolite' Construction A View of the Two 'Fibrolite' Homes Mentioned Below. The cyclonic storm* that swept the Cabra : matta District, N.S.W. on the 9th September, ranks as one of the most severe in the history ? of the State. The storm was over in the space of a few .'?'?minutes, its trail, being marked by unroofed, and battered houses, shattered windows, ruined awnings, broken fences and trees and demol ished sheds and garages. Before the onslaught of the tornado, a picture theatre constructed of brick collapsed like a pack of cards. The iron roof was lifted and carried into the air, to be torn asunder by terrific gusts. Great damage was caused to the Cabramatta Hotel, which is also constructed of brick. One of the noticeable results of the storm was that the most convincing evidence was provided of the remarkable strength and struc tural stability of 'Fibrolite' Asbestos-Cement dwellings', hundreds of which are erected in the Ca...
