For tho riannor. The TarifTnnd the farmer. Messrs, Moart «_$¦ Thompson:—Tho Feds are. making too many misrepresentations as to tho New Tariff, to bo passed ovor sitontly. One of them is, that the Farmer ie protected on the article of Wool, (the raw mdteridl of the manufacturer,) aa high, or higher, than the manufacturer is on the manufactured article. Let us examine the facta : I weighed a piece of Broad Cloth that sells in our town for g(> 50 per yard, and found it to weigh not quite one pound to tho yard. This cloth must have cost in Europe, £2 50, on which is charged by the New Tariff, a duty of 30 per cent, making 75 cents per yatd for the manufactured article. On the other hand, Wool costs in Europe from 8 to 28 cents per pound, according lo quality, making, with a duty of 30 pei ceni. 2} and 7J cents per pound.
