SALE OF GILLETT PROPERTY . A Home Test of Milk . With the apparently uncontrollable disposition of some dealers in milk to increase their profits by the addition to it of water , the following home test may interest some readers , because it is very easily made , and more reliable as to results than at llrst sight may appear : Ill ! an ordinary tumbler with slanting sides—that is , wider on top than at the bottom—and of near to half a pint capacity , with the milk to be tested ; cover with clean paper and set it aside in a quiet place or closet , where it will not be disturbed or stirred for three or four days , until it has become thick . In conversation with a Journal re . porter Constable Frank Duncan , of Areola , the well known crook catcher , stated Wednesday evening that there is no doubt but what n deiinite clew has been obtained in the Stillions murder mystery in Douglas county ! and that It is only a question of a short time until the dastard who lired the fatal shot will be brought to justice . Constable Duncan s theory , supported as he says , by unquestionable circumstances , is that the murder was committed by a man who had resided around Galton and was enamored -with Mrs . Stillions . Mind , said Mr . Duncan , I want it understood that Mrs . Stillions was absolutely innocent in the matter . She did not know that the fellow admired her nor had she then or has she now the faintest suspicion of his Identity or that the fellow desired the death of Stillions that he might have an opportunity to lay seige to her heart . Is th...

Untitled [Newspaper Article] — Urbana Daily Courier — 16 March 1903

TUESDAY , MARCH 17 , 1903 . A CRYING NEED . Whats the matter with the Commerial club that it does not , in its collective capacity , take up the opera House matter aud put it through to a finish . Every little while the need of a commodious hall is demonstrated . . Today is St . Patrick s day , and St . Patrick s church of Urbana is going to make a big celebration , but Champaign gets all of it except a part of the parade . Supper , dance and all go to Champaign , for the simple reason that Urbana has no hall of sufficient capacity to hold the people . Just as like as not , some people will curse Champaign for gobbling all the good things , but The Courier has to say that Urbana has itself to blame . It has had lots of such examples of Inadequate hall accommodations , and has had ample time to supply all that is needed , and it is a cinch that every thing goes to Champaign so long as Urbana does not act . If Urbana had a little hall that could comfortably accommodate 1 , 000 people ...
