All over the state preparations are being made to put in every aore of corn possible said Mr . Rankin . In northern Illinois the dairy industry Is expanding rapidly . Everywhere live stock ls the popular theme . Sections from which grain has been persistently shipped ever since early settlement days will be stocked within tbe next two or three years . Farmers are realizing that without Btook they cannot keep up fertility . Inquiry about the price of pure bred cattle met me a...

Farmers Cot Wealthy . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 28 January 1902
Farmers Cot Wealthy . HARMERS by the thousand all through the corn belt are enjoying new and in may cases unexpected Avealth by rise in value of their lands . This increase lias been phenomenal , amounting in many instances to 100 per cent . In some parts of Iowa the 8100 mark has been reached , while the rich corn-lands of Illinois are rapidly creeping to a 8150 valuation . Having tired of city real estate and Wall street manipulations , investors naturally turn to rural property . Their judgment in doing so is as sound as their previous neglect of the field is surprising . But this increase in value places before the farmer a serious problem . He cannot handle § 100 land as he did the 830 article . If he is unable to make it pay interest on the new valuation common sense will dic tate its relinquishment and investment of the money somewhere else . Doubtless every acre of land in the corn belt is worth present valuations , but much of it must be farmed better if 5 per cent interest...
The 'Reason Why . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 28 January 1902
The Reason Why . a OME folks are making a vain attempt to stem the great tide of popular favor that is setting toward the Live Stock World . One of the questions they like to ask is : * If the editor of the Live Stock World is so capable why didnt he make the Drovers Journal a better paper than it was before he took hold of the Live Stock World ? That is equivalent to asking : Why cant a man lift himself over the fence by his bootstraps ? Or , Why isnt a man merely on a salary able to have as much to say as a proprietor ? Or - Why cant a hired man do what he chooses -with the property of another who wants nothing more done than will just barely keep out competition ? If this does not satisfactorily answer ihe question just keep your eye on the Live Stock World . Yesterday s Live Stock World with Baz Sparling s write-up and Donahue s pictures of three andsome orsemen , was in great demand .

U & fenty Toxinds E % ) ery Ten Days , IfffURING the unusually fine weather we | 2 i have had during nearly all of the present winter thrifty shoats could be counted to put on at least twenty poxinds every ten days ; in some cases thirty pounds . It may be that 2 . 40 to 300 lb . hogs are scarce , but it only takes ten days of fine weather and full feed for the 150-lb . pigs to weigh il 75 lbs ., the 175 pounders to tip the scales close to 200 lbs ., and the 200-lb . di * oves to average 225 lbs ., with an increase of 50 to 70 lbs . in a month . There is no animal that grows faster or gives better account of food and care than a thrifty 150 to 200 lb . hog .

T A self-conljained man is never in a hurry ; he keeps or contains his thought , Jlis spirit , his power , mostly on the act or use he is making at the present moment With the instrument his spirit uses , his body . The habitually self-possessed woman j i ^ vill be graceful in every movement , for the reason that her spirit has complete possession and command of its tool , the body ; and is not a mile or ten miles away from that body in thought , fretting or hurrying or dwelling on something at that distance . AVhen we form a plan for any business * any undertaking , any invention , we are making something of that unseen element , our thought , as real as any machine of iron or wood . That thought begins as soon as made to draw to itself power to carry itself out in physical or visible substance . o
