When the corn is soft and the weather not too cold, i« the time to give, the hogs a good start. In this case the are ready for any market, yet ma be led with profit as lite as January, if prop erly managed. Hogs usually do quite well on clo ver with no other feed, up to the first of August, when the pastures are apt to become dry, and the grass tough And that is a time of year when it does not pay to starve the swine. Without elaborating the many strong points in favor of fall plough- ing, a few of the prominoat benefits may bo briefly stated as follows: 1st.
