The Citizen. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1875. Local SUnLag Affairs. There- great activity in mining matters. The Pinal mines must be at tracting many people for Weston & Long have increased their stage service from tri-weekly to daily as will be seen by advertisement. We hear from various sources, that there is a very prospect of a sale of the Silver King to parties who will use capital in its thorough development. Charles O. Brown and Col. W. G. Boyle returned here by stage of Tuesday. Mr. Brown says he has done but very little work on the Athens during his last time spent there ; that he has sunk a well mostly through rock between forty and. forty -five feet deep, and obtained plenty of excellent water within a few rods of the Athens. Another hundred pounds of Athens ore worked at Flor ence yielded nineteen pounds of nice silver which (on Thursday) was at Wood Brothers. Mr. Brown expects to return to the mine next Monday. Columbus Delano has for some years past and up to October 1, held the office of Secretary of the Interior the office having more direct relations with the people generally than any other. TTe are in receipt of theTopeka Com monwealth of September 10, 1S75, in which there is a letter dated at Prcs cott, August 24, and signed "Jeff," from which we make the following ex tracts: "Sir: A pamphlet published by the Governor of this Territory purporting to give correct information respecting the resources of the Territory, was ex tensively circulated in Kansas last year during grasshopper difficulties. The Governor, through this pamphlet, (for it was written by him,) colored every thing so beautifully that man were induced to leave their homes in Kansas and come to Arizona, and this is what induced me to write you to again warn the people of Kansas to stay at home. This is not the country it is represented to be. " 1 I The Citizen SATURDAY, - - OCTOBER 23. 1875. So nor a, II er Tronbles and Af fliction. Our recent advices from Sonora show that a new contribution of $30,000 has been imposed upon the people of Bo nora and also that the government is in 3 feverish excitement over rumors of .revolutionary movements. We are Biubcr.ly sorry for the afflictions that Beem to follow thick and fast upon that unfortunate country. Possessed of re markably favorable natural resources, with a soil and climate capable of pro ducing almost any thing that is grown in any clime, with extensive pasture lands and vast mineral wealth and a harbor second only to that of San Francisco, the question naturally ari ses, why this poverty and discontent which are wide spread over the coun try? Why are her poor emaciated people constantly leaving for other countries, so poor as to be objects of pity, while the country is daily running down and the people growing poorer ? There is surely something wrong in this condition...

The Citizen. SATURDAY, OCTOBER SO. 1875. An Editorial Scrub. With all bis experience aud apparent fairness, no other title seems to exactly apply to- the editor of The Arizona 3Iiu er. With his determination to plead the cause of the most unpopular Judge ever in Arizona, we do not incline to interfere, but with his deliberate de termination to misrepresent The Crrx ZE2 and people hereaway on the same subject, we will say something. In The Miner of the 15th, the editor proves himself guilty of such a per version of our position, as only the lowest scrubs in the profession are ever guilty of, and tbey very rarely; and a careful reading of the article in comparison with the one in The Citi zen of October 2, will convince an intelligent person that the editor in tentionally and grossly misrepresented the more important points in our arti cle which was his text. We quote as follows: j For instance, The Citizen of the 2d instant, says, "For months after we had lost confidence in his dispo...
