V < > IU if 5 HU A Belligerent Parion In a recent little book by Mr P S Child on The Colonial Parson of New England some lively anecdoteij are recalled of the patriotic mlnlstcrt of the Revoltlonary period many o whom exhortefl their flocks to war 1 while there were a few a very few whose ardor was such that they did not stop at exhoratlon One of these was Dr Dagcett of New Haven who when the city was burned by the enemy was observed standing solitary In a little clump of bushes with his gun blazing away at the British with all his might An officer and a few eoldlers weie detailed to capture the lone warrior When they came close upon him their leader exclaimed dis disrespectfully What are you doing there you old fool firing on his majestys troops Exercising the rights of war promptly replied the ministerial sharp shooter If I let you go this time you ras cal cried the officer amused will you over fire again upon the troops of his majesty Nothing more likely was the grim reply ...
