H., Va.: TIU KSDAT, JAM'ARY 10, 1882. A, SPLENDID opportunity is HOW offered for the "Boss." Barnum announces that he will employ all curious specimens of the human race, and freaks of nature for his great sliow. Now, here is a chance for " Billy the Kid," and he may be sure that for him "there's millions in it." Go in Bijly, and carry your hat. TATTOOING is an old method, reaching far back in the ages among the uncivilized. It is reserved for the Buccaneer Salvage Crew to put this fashion to practical use in these fateful days. They have adopted the true New Zealand fashion. Their patterns are intricate, the lines deep, and the style bold! No man, however honest, however pure he may be, who cannot, in stripping down, show upon his body the salvation mark. "Boss," can hope for anything. We are glad of t...

Scoville, who has the misfortune to be his brother-in-law and attorney, we have the deepest and most heartfelt smpathy. He lias borne his troubles, shouldered without the hope of reward a most desperate case, with a courage and honesty, re freshing to all. Assailed by vile sheets which are encouraged by a bastard morality, he has stood to his post manfully and with digii ity. At last he is driven to bay,and has entered suit against the Chicago Herald for libel. We wish him abundant success, and unhesitatingly say he has our sympathy. PASSIN JOHN E. Many in the immediate vicinity of Drummondtowu have tried in vain to obtain farm help for the year of ISB2, but so far have been unsuccessful. This will continue to be the result unless they place their dependence upon a more stable nice than the colored population. Since the ascendancy of the Mahone party the negro seems to l»e above labor on the farm, or, in fact, any kind of labor by which lie " shall earn his bread by the sweat of his brow." This is the general conclusion arrived at. True, there are some very industrious negroes among us, but they are "scarce as hen's teeth" almost. What will the farmers do, then, is the question, unless they can induce the negro to work ? Why, the answer...

IF WE could only have the advantage of such Prattling as Baltimore had recently it would be of great value to us—especially if its benefit were divided into both library and school. By the way, we doubt if the bulk of our citizens know of the fact of the existence in this town of a Library Association, whose book-shelves are filled with works of prose, poetry, fiction, history and philosophy, worth their close study, and far above libraries of many large towns in intrinsic value. It is so, and we commend it to the public. "IT is no wild guess that. Cameron and Riddleberger will cut loose fronuMahone and come to tlie front as Democratic leaders about 1881. Phila. Times. Eah!
