The Calaveras Chronicle is putting forward a number of candidates for State officers, some of whom are noted as being defeated candidates for county offices—rather a poor recommendation, to start on.— First and foremost, is Col. Allen P. Dudley, whose military exploits in the New Hampshire militia is suppose, by Col. Rust, to entitle him to the office of Governor of this State—perhaps it may. Next and most conspicuous is, Napoleon Lconidos Broughton, the regular Democratic nominee for County Clerk, who was defeated (by the people who best knew him) in a county where Gov. Latham received a majority, over all competitors, of one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine, thereby showing a loss of one thousand democratic votes in his own county! This is truly a strong recommendation to a Democratic Convention for the office of Clerk of the Supreme Court of the State. Last, and least, is the recommendation of Charles W. Littler as a suitable candidate for the office of Scrgcant-at-arms of t...

Post Offices in Fresno County. [Newspaper Article] — Visalia Weekly Delta — 29 October 1859

Post Offices in Fresno County. Kings River James Smith Scottsburg Levi Mitchell Millerton Clarke Ho.xie Dr. L. J. Czapkay.—Tho number of those who have sacrificed the joys and pleasures of society to gratify a transitory desire for excitement has never been estimated. The efforts of a Kicord, a Sanger, and a Czapkay— the most illustrous exponents of that branch of science are, however, dispelling the mists of prejudice which rendered the treatment of private diseases a forbidden subject to the general public, and those famous practitioners now stand forth in the light of benefactors of their race. In this Slate, the success of Dr. L. J. Czapkay has been so marked that envy and detraction have done their bes...

Scraps. [Newspaper Article] — Visalia Weekly Delta — 29 October 1859

Scraps. The War of the Woman.—The young wife of the Prince Napoleon is a genuine Sardionian. She does not like the manner in which the war with Austria has been concluded and her father humbugged. The London Court Journal, through its Paris correspondent tells us that there have been serious feuds between the Empress Eugenia and the Princess Clothilde, Victor Emanuel's daughter. According to an official return of the Austrian Government, just published, tbe total loss of the army in Raly in killed, wounded, and prisoners, was 1,164 officers, and 38,500 men. Prof. LaMountain recently made a balloon ascension in New York State, and traveled one hundred miles in ninety minutes. It is exceedingly bad husbandry to harrowup the feelings of your wife, to rake old quarrels, to hoe a grudge, and to sow discord. To Dye a Dark Blue, add to a common Indigo dye, one tablespoon full of Madder to one ounce of Indigo. During the last five years the mortality on board emigrant ships traveling betwee...
