Ii II he Tribune And News FRIDAY, MARCH 27, 1914 Tho remodelling of a few awn- ings in the business section would greatly improve the appearance of Bartlett. Hon. Jas. E, TFerguson candi- date for governor, opened his campaign at Blum, last Satur- day to a large crowd of voters, and hia address was well received according to the press dispatches. When the voters of Roeers "turned Jdown" the bond issue for Iteood roads they put their thriving town on the back seat of progress. They will be sorry some day of the action. It is very evident now that thef recent bond i?sue in this good roads precinct, was not sufficient, and that art increase of at least $35,000, should be made in order, to give the citizens of tho pre fcinct the necessary good roads. The TribuneJ does not know as to the propriety of another elec- tion being held now for that pur- pose but would suggest that the matter be taken up and dis- cussed among the voters and tax payers, with a view to as- certaining whether or n...

Har- ris, of the Buroru of tho Census, Department ot Commerce, an- . nounces a change in the method of publishing the statistics of cotton. The annual reports o n the quantity of cotton ginned have heretofore included the quantity of linters obtained by tho oil mills. Formerly there was only a comparatively small quantity of linters obtained and they were of such a grade as could be used, to some extent, for tho same pur- poses as were the lower grades of cotton. Many of the oil mills have now installed machinery for the closer delinting of the seed. This has resulted in a large in- crease in the total quantity of linters produced each year and, at the same time, in lowering the average quality of the fibre, so 'that now only a small part if any, is used as a substitute for lint cotton. It, therefore, appears advisa- ble not to ...

I li i i; t tw L The Tribune And News FRIDAY, MARCH 27, 1914 The most dangerous rascal in ,tne worm is the winsome TaBcal, He is to envied more than cen- turcd, who can stand over the grayo of his kindred and fear no rememberance of neglect or un faithfulness. The prohibition question is at present a big one in Texas, but wait until the land question comes up for adjustment. Busi- ness will pick up then. Notwithstanding the mayoralty race is the paramount issue in the city campaign, the Tribune is gratified to know that both con- testants have conducted the campaign in a clean manner, Neither has had any harsh criti- cism of the other. About Our City Officials, We regret to have to again refer to it, but it is a shame that Bartlett has no decent road lead- ing to the cemetery. It is strange how much interest peo- ple will manifest in some matters and let others of more import- ance go unnoticed. Those who fall out with each other over the campaign city, county or state, good roads o...
