t COL. FREMONT 'The National Intelligencer publishes a letter from Col. Fremont dated 17lh Nov.; and another from Mr. Lupin from Pueblo on the upper Arkansas dated Nov. 28 and a third from Maj. Fitzpatrick dated at Bent's Fort. Jan. 3. Col. Fremont says :fsteamship Galveston which met with an accident on To avoid tbe danser or snow-storni3 upon the more ex posed Arkansas route I followed the line of the southern .Kansas. For a dislaucc'offour hundred miles our route led J through a country affording abundant wood game and excel' lent grass. We find that the valley uf the Kansas affords by far the most eligible approach to the mountains. The whole valley soil is of very superior quality and the route rerr di- rect between 38 and' 39 degrees. Bloody Affray. A desperate affray occurred at a place called Point Chicot near the Harrison and Panola line on the 21st inst. in which Dr. Nail was killed and a man named Madison M. Mitchell was dangerously wounded. The circum- stances as related to us which we only give as ru- mor arc briefly these: The parties were somewhat intoxicated aud In the midst of some harsh lan- guage on both sides Mitchell drew out his knife and was immediately attacked by Dr. Nail who Inflicted upon him a desperate wonud with his knife from which it is thought he cannot recover. A brother of Mitchcl in attempting to pacify the parties was also wounded by Dr. Nail.
