f J POETRY. From the Louisville Journil" THE SEA SHELL. Shall of the bright sea waves! What is it that we hear in thy si'd moan f .Is this unceasing music all thine own Lute of the ocean caves! Or docs .seme spirit dwell -In the deep windings of thy chamber dim .Breathing forever in its mournful hymn Of Ocean's anlhem swell? Wert thou a murmurer long ;In chrystal palaces beneath theseas ;Ere on the bright air thou Iiadst heard the breezo Pour its full tide of song? Another tiling with thee; Are there not gorgeous cities in the deep ;Buried with flashing gems that darkly sleep Hid by the mighty sea ? Ah say oh lone sea shell ! 'Are there not costly things and sweet perfumes ;Scatter'd in waste o'er that sea gulf of tc.mbs? Hush thy low moan and tell. But yet nnd more than all Has not eacli foaming wave in fury tossed O'er earth's mcst'beaiitiful the brave the lost Like a dark funeral pall? 'Tis vain thou answerest not !
