Excise' and G.P.O. Revenue Exceed Estimates . CANBEEEA. — Customs excise and Post 'Office revenue 'from . July 1 to December 31 were: in excess of the Budget estimates for the period, ac cording to official returns released. Customs and excise -revenue amount ed to £26,990,595 for the six months —£1,216,498 above the estimate. Post Office revenue; at £9,263,477, was £17.0,470 abovo the estimate. ?Customs and exciso revenue for the six months was £804,045 higher than in the same period of 1939-40, and the Budget estimated a decrease' this yoar' of £82,906. Last month collec tions aggregated £5,128,998 — £1,181,- 167 more than .in December, 1939. Post Office revenue for ,tho six months was £416,735 higher than in the corresponding period , of the pre vious year. The Budget estimated an mcroase ot £492,531 for the year. DEATH OF LORD BADEN-POWELL Was Founder Of Scout Movement NAIROBI, Januaiy 8.— The death occurred to-day of _ Lord Baden PoweU, foulader of the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides' organisations to promote igood citizenship in the ris ing generations. He was aged 88. Lord Baden-Powell died at ,6.10 a.m. (Kenya time) at his home at Nyeri. The funeral will take place on Thursday at Nyeri at 3.30 o'clock. Imperial Scout Headquarters m London announced that scouts through out the world would attend synchron ise. rememl. ranee services to Lord linden-Powell on January 12 or Janu ary 19. Lord Baden-Powell 's last message to Boy -Scouts' Headquarters in Lon don was a Christmas card received last week. The illustrations in the card, which were lettered and drawn by him, included one of Hitler to whom Jie stated: 'We owe him a statue. He lias done more than any other man ever to- consolidate our nation at home . and overseas.' The card told scouts to 'stick it out until the war was won.'
