WHERE IS HE? To the Editor of the McIvor Times. [Newspaper Article] — The McIvor Times and Rodney Advertiser — 25 June 1863

WHERE IS BE? To tihe Editor of the Mclvor. Time.s, .Sn,--I have onhly just' been favored with a sight of copies of the Mlccor News of the 5th and 12th instant. in th; faormer I am made the subject of a sort o leading article, headed as above, and inf the latter I anm subjected to a public ac cusation for i!legal. de'ention of propbrty. I may state at once that both these imat tars are already in my solicitor's -hands; but in the meantime, perhaps' youqill permit me through the mediumr of 'our columns to answer the inquiy, made more .thanbnca by, tlie incomrehensible :vwe" of the now ndtorious Rodney Dispatch. In making my statement, it will not come within my province even to insinuatewhat are the probable motives by which the "we" ot the Dispatch was actuated, when the said " we penned his scandalous and scurrilou.s article. At present I will merely content myself.by giving his as sertions the inost uroeserved contradiction; and, more, I will prove them to be false. In order to aff...

TO CHARLES ROBINSON, ESQ., MEMBER OF THE HEATHCOTE AND WARANGA ROAD BOARD, (Per favor of the McIvor Times,) [Newspaper Article] — The McIvor Times and Rodney Advertiser — 25 June 1863

- TO CHARLES ROBINSON, ESQ., MEuBER OF THE HEATHCOTE AND WARANGA ROAD BOARD, (Per favor of the Mclvor Times,) Smi, - Your unsuccessful attempt at the last Road Board meeting to obtain a proper examination of the works on the Kilmmre road, was not altogether'a failure. It be came virtually a protest-in which the chairman joined-against the acts of the majority, which will have its weight at a futureoday. With that cdnsideration you must rest contented for a while. You are too good a judge to expect men to take 9teps,that they know must inevitably reflect discredit on themselves. All their caution, however, is unavailing: facts are out and tell their own tale. The contract for the bridge over the McIvor Creek at Tooborac, costing near a thousand pounds, was speci fied to be of iron bark or box, with red gum planking, the fencing on top to bei of stringy bark: all .timber used to be free from pipes,-worm, holes, or other defects. Now, it so happened that Mr Mark .Hayes, who, when a mem...

I thinIS'if the >oor fellow was able.to spe~ak for himself, he would say that he received at all times more kindness from myself and Mrs Potter than he did from Mr Watts. By inserting these few lihies, you will oblige Yours very obediently, GEORGE POTTER. Caledonia Gully, June 15, 1863.

SNEW ZEALAND. (From Saturday's Argus.) By the steamer Prince Alfred we have dates from Nelson to the 13th instant. On the 4th instant, the troops, under General Cameron, proceeded to Taitarni maka; at six o'clock a.m., and opened fire with the Armstrong battery on a native redoubt. Thie 57th regiment attacked the rifle-pits, on the right of the position, driving the enemy into the redoubt. They then fixed bayonets, and stormed the- redoubt,. killing every native withii le. Colonel Logan and Captain Short claim the honor of being first in. The men behaved well,.and nothing could resist the impetuosity of the attack, Colonel Warre's party pursned the flying enemy. The brunt 6f the action was. born by the 27th, and General Cameron compli. mented them on the spot, saying that the colonel should be proud to comrmand so fine a rlegiment, and adding,. MINING IN HEATHCOTE. [Newspaper Article] — The McIvor Times and Rodney Advertiser — 25 June 1863

MININIG IN HEATHCOTE. The following letter appeared in the Argus of Thursday, June 18: Sir,-Permit md through the medium of your valuable journal to mnke known a very serious grievance under which the" miners of this district are suffering. Our present mining laws make regis. tration of quarts claims compulsoryl, and as there are many very valuable ones, we have been most anxious to comply with the :bye-laws;? bhut e find upon going to the .mining registrar that he has none of the proper forms, and he can't tell us when he will have any, for hlie says that he has applied to the Miiniun department for them, but no notice has been taken of his application. We are oblige'd to run the risk of having our claims jumped; and if we did not eventually lose them, we should be put to heavy law expenses to retain them. What makes our case worse is, that all the other mining registrars in the Sand burst mining district have long been sup plied with the proper books, and the miiners'of those dist...
