The Non-Advertiser. [Newspaper Article] — The Independent — 21 July 1914

The Non-Advertiser. 'Hrentbes there a Man with soul so dead ■ Who never to himself hath said : "My trade of late is getting bad, I'll try another two-inch.a<l." If such there be, go mark hiui well, For him no bink account shall swell, No angel watch the golden stair To welcome him a millionaire; The man who never asks for trade, By local lines or ad. displayed, Cares more for rest than worldly gain •, And patronage must give him pain. Tread lightly, riends let no rude sound Disturb his solitude profound. . Here let him live in calm repose, Unsought by men except he owes, And when hedies, go plant him deep, That naughtmay break his dreamless sleep, -Where no rade clamor may dispel The quiet that he loved so well, And that the world may know its loss, Place on his grave a wreath of moss; And on a stone above, "Hera lies A chump who wouldn't advertise."

Public Notice PIANO & Grand Hotel, Melbourne, 7th Feb., 1911 Dear Sirs, Having thoroughly tested and examined the new Wertheira Aus tralian Pianos, I can with the utmost confidence recommend them. They are eminently satisfactory from every point of view—tone, touch, and finish*" and must prove durable owing to the soundness of their construction. -* When such Pianos are manu factured in this country there seems little need, to my mind, for Australians to favor imported instruments. Your School Model is indeed an excellent production, and possesses a rich full tone, superior to larger models by well-known European makers. Yours faithfully, (Sgd.) Correspondence. MOVE ON BYE LAW. TO THE EDITOR. [Newspaper Article] — The Independent — 21 July 1914

. Correspondence. MOVKON BYE L\W. TO TUB I5DITOR. Sir,—Would you allow me a small space in your paper to resent Saturday n'ght's scene iti Bridge street. When did the move-on 1 bye-law come into force in that street? Or has a certain constable taken it into his own lundn? I was not aware that even with the bye-law in for. e thit a person co ild not stand out in the ro;id to talk. Benalla must be on the " improve " when the city bye-laws are put into force here. Why are not the other streets patrolled ? At present it seems to be only from King's news agency to Gregerson's corncr. We will surely need more police if Benalla has become so important.— Yours, &c., ONE WHO HAS TRAVELLED. Ben alia, 20/7/14. '' [There is a fairly drastic bye law (No, 10) passed by the Sbire Council and gazetted in 1904, page 1543, dealing with the "move on " 1 in Benalla, —Ed. Indbpt.]

WHEN THE JAPANESE ADVERTISE [Newspaper Article] — The Independent — 21 July 1914

WHEN THE JAPANESE ADVERTISE The Japanese have an original way of advertising, and Uiey apply to the art ail the poetry that their Oriental Imagination is capable of. They have recourse to the most varied and Im provised methods, and their combina tions are sometimes as picturesque as they are original. A Japanese mer chant informs his customers tnat his goods are sent off Willi the rapidity of a shot. A stationer calls his know ledge of natural history to liisaid thus —"Our wonderful paper Is as durable as the hide of an elephant. A Tokio grocer borrows from psychology, and, in mordant language, announces that 'Our vinegar of extra quality 13 sharp er than the bitterness of the most dia bolical of mothers-in-law."
