THE CONCERT [Newspaper Article] — The Lilydale Express — 10 July 1914

THEi CONCERT in the 4thenaeum, Hall. in the evening was an unqualified suc cess. The concert committee and the Misses Phillips and Messrs Goode are to be congratulated on the quality of-the programme sub mitted; which. wa?- yaiietl 'and' ihn teresting from start to finish. The large audience thoroughly enjoy ed the various items, and were not slow in their appreciation of the best of the many good num bers submitted. The Weary Willies (Messrs S. and R._Goode, Reakes, W. Hodges, J. Huston, J. Henry, R. hNoden, anid H. -Hut chinsor) caused considerable merriment with their queer- cos tumes and local hits in their "Limericks," advertisements, and faim yard medley, .etc. The person who superintended the "make-up" of the Weary Willies is certainly an expert in that de partment. The company of Red Indians, Messrs K. Phillips, L. Geiger, V. and E. Benyan, -A. Campbell, W. Truelove, S. Tait, and Masters G. Allen, A. ARBOR DAY AT LILYDALE [Newspaper Article] — The Lilydale Express — 10 July 1914

ARBOR DAY AT LILYDALE Though the heavy rain on Tues day soaked the ground so thor oughly that tree-planting was impossible, the busy band of workers who turned out on Wed nesday morning under the cap tainship of Mr E. A. Janson, did splendid work in improving the ovals in the main street of Lily dale. About 40 " grafters " tack led the job of clearing up the wildernesses into which the ovals had grown, and when the day's work was finished, the renovated state of the large oval near the creek, and the three smaller ones, bore evidence of the Arbor Day enthusiasts' good work. The ovals were dug throughout, surplus growth removed, trees and plants pruned, and the whole enclosures straightened up, and put into good order. Messrs Errey senr., and A. Stallworthy attended to tne Dowling green oval, and the rose trees were pruned, and the garden generally straightened up. A quantity of rose cuttings was disposed of readily, and a further supply is on hand. A record in tree-guard erection wa...
