GILGANDRA SHOW (To the Editor.) [Newspaper Article] — The Castlereagh — 20 January 1905

GILGANDRA SHOW (To the Editor.) 8ir,— I think the time ie qaite ripe for the establishment of au annual Pastoral and Agricultural Exhibition st Qilgandrk. The benefits of such an institution to the town and district would be almost incalculable. Our neighbours at Dubbo, Mudgee and Wellington would not be without their annual show under any consideration — it brings money to tn« town — ad- vertises their resources — sets up good examples for their farmers and stimulates them in au aim at higher ideala. I would seggeet that the local Progress Committee should call a publio meeting, get tbe co-operation of those on tbe laud, and start the ball rolling. They might bog in in a small way at first, bat tfce g*od eke* «rsU sW the town ex d e%ti»t will be so great that, like other towns, the show will soon grow into an important annual function which ahould be a credit to the town and district. I will be glad to see *orae other resident interented further advocate this matter through the med...

ACTING STOCK INSPECTOR. [Newspaper Article] — The Castlereagh — 27 January 1905

ACTING STOCK IN8PECT0R. At the last meeting of the Progress Committee a letter waa read from the Coonamble Past ores and Stock Board refusing an application to appoint an acting stock inspector at Qilgaadra. Tbe Progreas Committee baa for some time past been agitating for tbia privilege. Local stock owuera are at a great disadvantage, ai they often decide to track fat stock on receipt of tbe condition of tbe Sydney market and, to catch the market at its beat, they mast track at once and there is no time for a permit to be got from Coona Jible and the neareat Acting In spector is twenty five miles distant, and to obtain a permit necessitate* a journey of fifty miles — tbia journey has often been done during tbe past few months. The appointment of one locally would save considerable time and expense to stock owners. Mr Francis acts for Coouabarabran and i* to be gazetted to act for Dnbbo.
