Algernon's Love Affair. [Newspaper Article] — Kerang New Times — 9 January 1914
Algernon's Love Affair. * By Llewellyn Thurston. Algerton Bayford contentedly smil ed as, reconstructing an elegant wave in his hair, he stepped backwards the better to criticise its mirrored ef fect. "Al," he muttered reflectively. "It ought to do a treat. If Vincent plays the game properly I should net the damsel. What are the use of..good looks and a distinguished appearance, if I am-to draw a blank in this'mar riage lottery?" Algerton paused, ar ranged, his tie with immaculate care, then added, "Wonder who the new ar rivals are? Cheerful it would be if Carson-Brown picked out Margate for a holiday. Just my luck if he did. An Awkward Mistake. [Newspaper Article] — Kerang New Times — 9 January 1914
An Awkward Mistake. A clergyman of a country parish told his clerk to give notice that there would be no service in the after noon as he was going to officiate for another clergyman. The clerk, how ever, misunderstood him, and an nounced at the close of the service: "I am desired to give notice that there will be no service this afternoon, as our minister is going a-fishing with another clergyman!" Why is a game of tennis like a party of children?-Because there is always a r'acket. Applause is only the clacking of tongues. Self-respect is better than fame.
