The late Harry Prince, who came over from New Zealand in 1881, with 'Bob' Yallance (who unfortunately met a watery death), Bob Ray, and the race horses, Mata, Oamballo, and Hilarious is credited with having put up a record in the way of testing a horse's endurance. ' Starting from Manureka, near the Duns tan (N.Z.) he rode Golden Cloud to Dunedin, near the Rock and Pillar, 143 miles between the hours of 6 p.m. on day, and 1 2 on the next. Thus taking only 18 hours to execute the long and rough journey.' Rhodes, the English bowler, had up to the 18th of August, taking 216 wickets at an average of 12.5 runs each.
